5 Beats a Day for 3 Summers

An interesting phenomenon that I’ve found to be true again and again is that success at just about any endeavor seems to be a function of time. This seems obvious, but it’s significant because it thwarts the notion of innate talent. If you spend a lot of time doing something, you are more likely to be better at doing that thing than those who spend less time doing it. Again, this seems obvious, but it’s significant for anyone who seeks to become good at something. The classic Kanye saying about how he attained the success that he has is actually pretty profound: “5 beats a day for 3 summers.” That’s what it took for him to become one of the best musical artists and song producers in history. For me, I want to become a great creator of AR content and as a result, plan on throwing my 10,000 hours into the creation and animation of 3D assets. We will see how that goes…
