Roy: A Life Well Lived

Countless thinkers throughout history have compared life to a game. Because there may be no inherent purpose to our existences, this may be an accurate analogy. What is the quest for love, money, and power but an ultimately fruitless endeavor to fill our time (unless there is some a priori meaning to all of it of which we are unaware)? Rick and Morty derives comedy out of this idea with the concept of a video game titled “Roy”. In “Roy”, one puts on a VR headset and lives out a lifetime with a character known as Roy. The game’s score is determined by the quality of Roy’s life. For all we know, we may be Roys trying to maximize our score. Success in our various endeavors doesn’t really matter, but it sure is fun.
